We have been actively researching how personality tendencies impact risk management and safety for over a decade.
Based on our research conducted through more than 250,000 surveys, we are keenly aware of how different individuals take risks due to their natural personality-driven tendencies. This knowledge allows us to predict risky behavior and coach organizations on how to heighten awareness and mitigate risks.
We also help organizations mitigate risks by enabling personnel to understand and manage their natural tendencies with regard to the following questions:
- Why is it difficult for me to make a safety intervention and what can I do to overcome my inhibitions?
- Do I naturally follow procedures and if not, how can I become more proficient at it?
- What is my natural communication style during pre-job safety meetings and how can I ensure common understanding among team members?
- How do I set error traps for myself and others?
The understanding and management of different personality styles set the foundation for a strong safety culture. By applying our suite of knowledge and tools, we can help your organization manage risk more effectively by:
- Heightening awareness and management of individuals’ natural tendencies towards risk recognition
- Effectively managing personal behaviors to ensure safety
- Applying improved communication skills during pre-job planning safety meetings
- Enhancing systems and processes for better safety, reliability and efficiency

Never before in the history of Thailand operations have we seen our workforce feel so comfortable in approaching supervisors and exercising ‘Stop Work Authority’.
Drilling Superintendent, Major Oil CompanyOur safety culture takes people a long way, but the E-Colors and Equilibria’s coaching take us even further than we could on our own.
Vice President, Gulf of Mexico Exploration ProjectsEquilibria coaching has had a very dramatic impact on our safety performance improvement from 2012 to 2013, reducing our error rates almost by half.
Operations Manager, Major Oil CompanyHow We Engage With You
The Intentional Safety Leadership Engagement session is an eight-hour experiential learning workshop. Participants acquire a deep understanding of personality diversity and engage in an interactive discussion to develop practical applications of this knowledge. Focus is placed on addressing specific business challenges, elevating performance and driving business results in the area of safety and risk management.
Leaders will leave this workshop with a heightened awareness of self and team, and be able to drive better safety outcomes through knowledge of The E-Colors and application of Personal Intervention techniques.
FRS is a customizable performance enhancement process aimed at inculcating proficiency of our core tools such as the E-Colors and Personal Intervention within the organization.
We have found the following three phrases to be critical for organizations to achieve their desired results:
Foundation
Our coaches first lead workshops and engagements with senior leaders and managers, then with the rest of the workforce to ensure a deep understanding of the tools, mental models and practices introduced. Follow-up coaching with senior leaders and managers is recommended to accelerate change in performance.
Realization
Once everyone in the organization has attained high levels of fluency, leaders and teams can begin to realize the potential of applying the tools to overcome organizational challenges, achieve strategic objectives and drive specific business results. Equilibria consultants and coaches work closely with leaders and managers to develop customized performance enhancement processes.
Sustainability
When the organization starts to see the results they desire, we focus on achieving sustainability. This is done through the creation of a Champions Network whereby a number of individuals are identified to form a team to steward the process. These individuals attend a five-day Coach The Trainer workshop to become proficient in the tools and are supported on an ongoing basis by Equilibria coaches.
At Equilibria, we have partnered with Fisher Improvement Technologies (FIT) who are experts in the field of human and organizational performance to develop the next generation error reduction technology known as Advanced Error Reduction in Organizations (AERO). The combination of Equilibria’s personality diversity expertise and FIT’s human performance expertise makes AERO a potent solution.
The AERO System (shown in the graphic below) is a core element of our advanced error reduction technology. It is an interdependent system where individuals aware of and managing their personality tendencies interact with people, programs, processes, work environments, organization and equipment.
AERO helps leaders understand that setting people up for success means deliberately managing these task-based systems to protect individuals in the event that they make an error. It also provides the individuals doing the task with the tools to dramatically reduce their individual error rate.
These are some of the components that our Error Reduction Technology includes:
- A systems approach to individual, task and organizational performance
- Human & Organizational Performance Guiding Principles
- Science-based definitions that help leaders change the culture of organizations
- Performance Modes that outline the error rate of an individual performing a given task at a given time
- Error Traps derived from the analysis of over 5,000 significant events over multiple industries
- Triggers & Tools, the mechanism to detect error traps and reduce error rates
